Boolean Problems!

So, I'm re-teaching myself, as best I can, 3ds and I'm working on a Steampunk-esque character and a steampunk revolver and sword. I've started on the revolver's chamber and when i try to boolean it it screws up horribly. I've tried a few things and so far I can't get the booleaned Capsuels to stay circular when I mesh smooth it.
